Free Metro Rides On Clean Air Day

Metro is offering free rides all day on Wednesday to celebrate Clean Air Day. The nonprofit organization Coalition for Clean Air declared Oct. 4 as Clean Air Day in California to improve the state’s air quality.
According to the American Lung Association, the Golden State has six of the top 10 cities in the nation for worst air pollution.
“Going Metro decreases greenhouse gas emissions and reduces air pollutants in the region. So take a break from traffic and pollution – instead, take action and experience a day of emissions-free travel on Metro bus, rail and bike for FREE,” Metro said in announcing the initiative.
Encouraging the use of public transport to reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses is part of Metro’s wider sustainability goals, said Patrick Chandler, an agency spokesperson. For every tree that Metro removes as part of its construction projects, it plants two California native or drought tolerant trees, he added.
How it works
To redeem a Metro Bike Share 30-minute free ride, select ‘1-Ride’ at any Metro Bike Share kiosk, online or in the Metro Bike Share app and use code: 100423. While the code can be used multiple times throughout the day, a credit or debit card is required to be able to use as just the first 30 minutes are free. Unlocking fees are waived.

And for the trains and buses? “They won't need a tap card. They won't have to pay. They'll just get on and ride for free all day long,” Chandler said.
