President Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was reduced to rubble early Wednesday morning, courtesy of a man with a pickax.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called around 3:30 a.m. to the star's location on Hollywood Boulevard near Highland Avenue to investigate a vandalism call, authorities said.

One witness to the vandalism told NBC4 he confronted the man.

"I'm like, 'Why are you hitting that star? What did Donald Trump do to you?'" David Palmer said. "Then he went around the corner and I think he left."

Not long after, the suspect turned himself in to Beverly Hills police, according to LAPD officials.

This is the second time in as many years that Trump's star has been destroyed in a similar fashion. In October 2016, a man dressed as a city construction worker tried to dislodge the star with a sledgehammer and pickaxe in the early morning hours.

The star has also been defaced or coopted for political statements several times in recent years.
