A Santa Monica High School student is in serious condition after being shot in the chest several times just 20 minutes after school let out yesterday afternoon. The 16-year-old student was shot just a few blocks away from Santa Monica High School around 3:25pm yesterday. Police said two twenty-something hispanic men fled in a dark-colored SUV, according to Santa Monica Patch.

It's not clear what the motive in the shooting is yet. One of his childhood friends asked the City Council for a moment of silence last night.
