PSA: The person holding a lottery ticket worth nearly $200 million has just hours left to claim the prize
Check your wallet. Check that jacket pocket. Check everywhere. A winning lottery ticket worth around $200 million is expiring at the end of Saturday (Dec. 7).
Details: The jackpot-winning Mega Millions ticket was sold at a Chevron station located at 18081 Ventura Blvd. in Encino on Dec. 8, 2023, with the winning numbers 21, 26, 53, 66, 70 and 13.
Remarkably, it was one of two winning tickets sold at the same location that same day. Given both hit all the numbers, the $395 million jackpot is split in half.
Lottery officials said one of the winning prizes were claimed this past summer.
“We have no way of knowing who has the second jackpot-winning ticket from that incredible night,” said Carolyn Becker, California Lottery spokesperson in a news release.
She also noted that while it would be a shame for someone to miss out on the jackpot, "all unclaimed prize money winds up helping support public education, so we can still feel good about it at the end of the day.”
Why now: The other winner out there has until today, Dec. 7, 2024, to claim that money.
How: If you are that lucky someone, you can bring your winning ticket and corresponding claim form to one of California Lottery's nine offices.
Or, you can fill out the paperwork, which is available here, and mail that along with the winning ticket to California Lottery headquarters. It must be postmarked on or before today. The recommendation is that you mail it via certified mail and save a copy of everything submitted.
