Topline:

2025's third quarter was the biggest ever at the Port of L.A., as importers rushed to get goods in before the holiday shopping season, said port officials.

Why it matters: There was concern earlier this year whether tariffs could affect the cost of holiday gift buying, but many companies made sure to get products into the U.S. earlier than usual.

The backstory: 2025 has been a rollercoaster year for trade through the port, mostly because of uncertainty as a result of U.S. federal trade policies.

Go deeper: Longshore workers saw less employment in May as tariffs slowed the flow of goods.
