Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

As a mob of Donald Trump supporters stormed a joint-session of Congress Wednesday in Washington, D.C., triggering chaos and violence, another group took to the streets of downtown L.A. in solidarity, holding "Stop the Steal" signs.

Several onlookers posted on Twitterthat Angelenos should stay away, saying they spotted members of the Proud Boys, a white supremacist hate group, at the scene. Those reports have not yet been confirmed.

Others captured scenes of violence and fighting between counter protestors and Trump supporters.

L.A. Times reporter James Queally captured the main site of the protests, outside LAPD Headquarters.

Photographer Ringo Chiu was also there.
