One police officer was killed and one injured in stable condition following a shooting in Baldwin Park last night.

The officers were called to the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue at around 7:12 p.m. after receiving reports of an individual firing a rifle.

The officers were fired at upon arrival, according to authorities. Police also found another person dead from apparent gunshot wounds at the scene.

"It sounds like a double murder," said L.A. Sheriff Robert Luna, whose department is leading the investigation, at a news conference Saturday night. "One of them being our police officer."

Luna said a suspect was shot by police and was apprehended.

Robert Lopez, Baldwin Park Police Department chief, was visibly shaken at Saturday night's news conference.

He was an avid snowboarder, [a] Dodger fan," Lopez said. "He would travel with and go see the Dodgers play at different stadiums across the United States. It it's extremely tragic to have to deal with this."

Authorities have not released the identities of the officers or the suspect. The shooting is under investigation.
