Topline:

Officials found incendiary devices in Torrance after a former student at Switzer Learning Center allegedly stabbed staff members and indicated to authorities he placed a pair of bombs in the area, according to police.

Why now: The two devices were “rendered safe” by an L.A. County Sheriff's Department bomb squad and there is no ongoing threat to the public, the Torrance Police Department announced around 3 p.m. Monday.

Why it matters: The former student is accused of stabbing staff members at the school around 8:15 a.m. Monday. The Torrance Police Department initially said three staff members were stabbed, and the former student had tried to stab a fourth. The department later said two staff members were injured during the incident.

The former student allegedly made comments while being taken into custody indicating he placed two pipe bombs around the intersection of Amapola Avenue and 208th Street, according to police.

The backstory: The two staff members were being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

What's next: The former student is in custody while the investigation continues. Anyone with information about the stabbings or bomb threat is asked to call the Torrance Police Department at (310) 328-3456.
