In Claxton's Death, A Photo Pioneer Lost

Photographer William Claxton got his start taking photos of jazz musicians in natural settings instead of smoky lounges. His 1967 film Basic Black was considered the first fashion video.
Also a photographer of models and celebrities, such as Steve McQueen and Judy Garland, Claxton published more than a dozen books during his 60-year career. He died Oct. 11 — a day before his 81st birthday — from congestive heart failure.
