A 28-year-old woman was shot and killed by police in Montebello Saturday after reportedly driving her vehicle toward an officer.

The incident occurred at the Quality Inn on Telegraph Road. A couple who weren't staying at the Inn but were using the pool got into an argument, and the woman went to the front desk to complain that her boyfriend took her purse, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Both the man and the woman had been drinking, and the police were called.

The woman then allegedly assaulted the boyfriend. When a police officer arrived, the woman got in her car.

As the woman drove away, she made a U-Turn and drove toward the officer and the boyfriend with her car, said Lisa Jansen with the sheriff's department.

The officer opened fire, striking the woman several times in the upper body. She was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
