What do you want to hear at 10 pm? KPCC listeners can help choose our new program

This week, we here at 89.3 FM KPCC/Southern California Public Radio started airing a new show at 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, "Q with Jian Ghomeshi."

This isn't a decision we'll make alone.  We'd like to put the "public" into public radio by asking you to listen and tell us: What's the right fit for your radio?

When you hear something you like or that you don't like, tweet it with hashtag #KPCCradioQ.  This week, the program featured comedy favorites Will Forte and director Kevin Smith, as well as the voice actor behind Apple's "Siri" and a conversation about how we're all eating apples the wrong way. (Yes, even you.)

"Q" is one of two programs being considered to replace "The Story," the longform interview show that was hosted by Dick Gordon.  Gordon stepped down from the hosting chair earlier this year, and "The Story" ended production.

We're also looking for your thoughts on our Facebook page and at (626) 583-5100.  Starting Dec. 30, we'll begin to air "Outlook" from the BBC World Service, a program that focuses on what they describe as "true life stories."  You can take an early listen to some of those episodes here.

In January, we'll do one last run of the programs back-to-back before selecting a permanent replacement. Make your voice (and your ears) part of that discussion now.

Here's how listeners have been responding to "Q" so far:

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
