Walt Disney's grandson to be arraigned for drugs, illegal weapons
Patrick Disney Miller, the 42-year-old grandson of Walt Disney, was scheduled to be arraigned today on charges of drug and illegal weapons possession.
Miller was arrested in Woodland Hills earlier this month when Los Angeles police officers found a variety of weapons in his home, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Miller was convicted of drug possession in Fresno in 2005.
Miller was originally charged with a single felony count, but prosecutors filed 19 additional felony charges against him on Wednesday. He is scheduled to be arraigned this morning in Van Nuys Superior Court.
Police executed a search warrant at Miller's home on Dec. 9. They found 13 handguns, a rifle, an illegal assault rifle and various drugs, prosecutors said. As a result of his Fresno conviction, he is barred from owning guns or ammunition.
LAPD officers obtained the warrant after running a background check on Miller when they discovered he had purchased ammunition, according to the District Attorney's Office.
The 19 additional counts added by prosecutors Wednesday include possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of an illegal assault rifle, and possession of a controlled substance with a firearm.
Prosecutors said they would ask that bail be raised from $35,000, which Miller posted earlier, to $785,000.
If convicted of all charges, Miller faces over eight years in state prison.
