Venice police shooting: Man with knife shot by LAPD officer dies
A man wielding a knife was shot and critically wounded by an LAPD officer in Venice Monday around 2 p.m., according to a department spokesperson.

A man who was shot by police outside a Venice coffee shop on Monday has died, according to Los Angeles police.
Jason Davis, 41, was shot by officers responding to a call for "disorderly suspect armed with a knife" in the 600 block of Rose Avenue. Officers said he failed to comply with commands to drop the weapon and a Taser did not have an effect, according to a police statement.
L.A. Fire Department paramedics treated Davis and transported him to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition, according to police.
Officer Liliana Preciado confirmed his death to KPCC on Thursday. Preciado offered no further details, citing the ongoing investigation.
The L.A. County coroner's office has not been able to independently confirm Davis' identity yet but did receive a case number with his full name and age attached, according a spokesman for that office.
The coroner's office was told that Davis died at UCLA Medical Center. His body will be transported for an autopsy, the results of which will be released when the case is fully closed, said Craig Harvey, the coroner's chief public information officer.
Per the department's use-of-force policy, the investigation will be reviewed by the Chief of Police, the Office of the Inspector General and Board of Police Commissioners.

Police recovered a large box cutter from the scene, according to the LAPD statement. No officers were injured.
As KPCC has reported, the shooting occurred about a mile from where an LAPD officer shot and killed unarmed homeless man Brendon Glenn two months ago.
