US News and World Report Best Colleges Rankings 2016: Several California schools included

U.S. News and World Report released their 2016 Best Colleges rankings Wednesday and some California schools made the cut.
In National Universities Rankings, Cal Tech was the only Southern California university to get a spot in the top 10, maintaining its number 10 ranking from last year, tied with John Hopkins University.
USC and UCLA tied for number 23, continuing the school rivalry.
Stanford received the highest ranking for a California university, placing number 4—its ranking from last year—tied with Columbia University and University of Chicago.
U.S. News and World Report defines schools in the National Universities category as those that “offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctoral programs. These colleges also are committed to producing groundbreaking research.”

More U.S. News National University rankings for California schools include:
- Berkeley ranked number 20
- UC Santa Barbara ranked number 37, tied with Case Western Reserve University
- UC Irvine and UC San Diego tied for number 39
- UC Davis ranked 41
- Pepperdine ranked 52, tied with Ohio State University, Columbus and University of Texas, Austin
- UC Santa Cruz ranked 82, tied with Texas Christian University and University of Iowa
- University of San Diego ranked 89, tied with University of Colorado, Boulder and University of Vermont
Rankings for top public schools in California included:
- UC Berkeley ranked number 1
- UCLA ranked number 2
- UC Santa Barbara came in at number 8
- UC San Diego ranked ninth
Princeton maintained the top spot for national universities and Harvard and Yale placed second and third, respectively.
