State Route 38 in San Bernardino County closed by tanker spill set to reopen

Authorities cleaning up a tanker truck spill that poured gasoline into a Southern California creek have removed tons of contaminated dirt and plan to reopen a closed road this week.
Officials say about 4,600 gallons of fuel spilled last Friday when a tanker flipped on State Route 38, the main mountain road between Big Bear and Redlands. Crews had to tear up part of the roadway for cleanup.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise says they removed 318 cubic yards of dirt. Much of the spilled fuel ran into nearby Cold Creek. A 5,000-gallon tank was flushing clean water into the creek.
Andrew Hughan of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife says there's been little damage to wildlife so far.
He says the road could reopen late Monday night or early Tuesday.
