In the upcoming movie "500 Days of Summer," a young greeting card writer played by Joseph Gordon Levitt falls desperately in love with one of his coworkers named Summer. Summer, played by Zooey Deschanel, likes him, too, but the two have decidedly different views about relationships.

The film comes out on July 17th and much of it was shot in Southern California. But unlike many other films which showcase Beverly Hills, Hollywood, or the beach, "500 Days of Summer" is set almost entirely in downtown L.A. Several scenes were shot at the Redwood Bar on 2nd Street. That's where KPCC's Alex Cohen caught up with stars Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
