The United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 770 announced that they'd signed an extension with Albertsons, Ralphs and Vons through the end of March as negotiations for a longer term deal continue.

The L.A. Times reported that grocery contract talks have been going slowly as the deadline neared. The contract was scheduled to end Sunday.

As of Thursday, the supermarket chains had yet to make a contract proposal, but a strike doesn't appear likely to happen soon. Union leaders say they want to avoid a strike.
