SoCal shoppers turn out for Black Friday deals
Shoppers were out bright and early looking for deals on Black Friday.
They might have been smart to buy now rather than later — and not just because of door-busting deals.
The timing of the Trump administration's tariffs on Chinese goods means customers may not pay more for things like clothing, appliances and electronics this year.
“Retailers were able to pull the inventory ahead,” said University of Southern California professor Nick Vyas. "Meaning they actually got it in place way ahead of time before these tariffs were imposed, in preparation for the holiday season. So I think the impact is not going to be as significant as it could be.”
But they could see higher prices come the next Black Friday. Today’s 10 percent tariffs are set to rise to 25 percent on Jan. 1.
