Calif. Senate candidates Boxer, Fiorina debate at KPCC
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer and her Republican challenger Carly Fiorina met in their second debate on Wednesday, Sept. 29 , 2010. KPCC hosted the debate at its studios in Pasadena, co-hosted by La Opinión.
The debate follows a poll that shows Fiorina trails the three-term incumbent by 8 percentage points. Analysts say the anti-incumbent, anti-Democrat wave sweeping the country is more of a swell on the West Coast. Especially in California, where President Obama remains popular.
Still, Republicans see their best chance in years of ousting Boxer – long a favorite target of the GOP. If they do, it boosts the party’s chances of taking control of the U.S. Senate.
Fiorina, the former head of Hewlett-Packard, opposes federal stimulus spending to boost the economy, and instead promises to cut business taxes and regulations to create jobs. Boxer backs some tax cuts, too – but she also strongly supports federal spending to create jobs. Today’s debate is the last one scheduled between the two candidates.
