Post Office unveils new Gary Cooper stamp
The U.S. Postal Service unveiled a new commemorative stamp for actor Gary Cooper, star of films like High Noon and Sergeant York, in a ceremony at the Autry National Center.
The ceremony was hosted by film critic Leonard Maltin. One of the speakers at the ceremony was Cooper's daughter, Maria Cooper Janis. A special film tribute to Gary Cooper, courtesy of Turner Classic Movies, was played at the ceremony.
The Autry's Imagination Gallery displayed Cooper film memorabilia, including Cooper's Academy Award Oscar for High Noon, one of Cooper's best known films. Other memorabilia on display includes a High Noon movie poster, a Norman Rockwell painting of Cooper, and more.
Cooper appeared in over 100 films during his career, including 38 Westerns. He won Academy Awards for High Noon and Sergeant York, and also starred in movies like The Pride of the Yankees, Along Came Jones, and The Plainsman.
