Deputies Tase man twice, then shoot him dead in Ladera Heights
Los Angeles sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man in Ladera Heights on Tuesday night after trying to use a Taser on him twice.
Deputies were called to a 24-Hour Fitness on Slauson Boulevard to deal with a man who was acting erratically, according to authorities. The man initially complied, but deputies were called a second time.
Deputies then used the Taser twice, but could not subdue him. Authorities said the man pulled out an electronic device that was tethered to his backpack and tried to use it against the officers.
"The suspect then aggressively went right toward the deputy swinging that item over his head directly at the deputy and the deputy involved shooting occurred," said Lieutenant Joe Mendoza to KPCC media partner NBC Los Angeles.
The man was taken to the hospital, where he died, authorities said.
