National Night Out: Police reach out to communities throughout LA-area
This year's National Night Out is Tuesday, Aug. 4 (though some communities hold their events on other nights). It's an annual night of community events across the United States meant to promote partnerships between police and local communities, according to the National Association of Town Watch, which promotes the events. They'll include block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and more.
The night is "a chance to bring neighborhoods together with the men and women who protect them," Joe Biden said in a quote on the National Night Out website. "The safety of our communities depend on both law enforcement and the citizens they serve, and [these] events will enhance that cooperation."
