Pistachios under Trader Joe's, other labels recalled amid salmonella scare

A brand of pistachios carried by Trader Joe's has been voluntarily recalled over fears of a salmonella outbreak.
The Wonderful Company of Lost Hills, California, said Wednesday it is recalling a number of in-shell and shelled pistachio products that may have been contaminated with the Salmonella Montevideo, bacteria that can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps.
The company also distributes the nuts under Trader Joe's and Paramount Farms labels.
Federal health officials are investigating the outbreak, which so far has been linked to the illnesses of 11 people in nine states, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
So far no cases have been reported in California and no one has died from the infection, but two people have been hospitalized.
Symptoms typically appear within 12 to 72 hours of eating contaminated food, according to the CDC.
The CDC recommends that anyone who may have purchased one of the recalled products return them to the store for a refund.
