Parts of the 91 Freeway to shut down this weekend; Here's how to get around it

If you'll be driving around Corona this weekend, plan ahead to avoid traveling on the eastbound 91 Freeway. Two separate road rehabilitation projects will close down parts of the freeway this weekend, as part of an effort to widen the road and introduce new tolled express lanes.
The Riverside County Transportation Commission will be pouring concrete for a new connector between the 91 and 15 freeways. The eastbound 91 to northbound 15 connector will be shut. The closure will start Friday at 11:59 p.m. and last through 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

For a detour, motorists will be directed to move to southbound 15, exit Magnolia Avenue, and re-enter northbound 15 to the eastbound 91 connector, the commission's spokesman John Standiford told KPCC.
After this shutdown, roads will reopen — but not for long. The second closure will begin Saturday, Sept. 10 at 10:30 p.m. to Sunday, Sept. 11 at noon.
The eastbound 91 at Maple Street will be closed to demolish half of a bridge. The other half was brought down earlier this month.

To avoid this choke point, Standiford suggests motorists exit at Maple Street and re-enter the eastbound 91 at the Paseo Grande onramp.
The westbound 91 will remain open throughout the weekend during both closures, but transportation officials recommend using the 60 if you're traveling through the area.
