Off-duty LAPD officer Heather Monroe killed in Simi Valley crash
An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was killed in a crash early Sunday morning.

An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was killed in a crash in Simi Valley early Sunday morning.
Officer Heather Monroe, 30, who had been assigned to the Devonshire Division, was the passenger in a vehicle that collided with an Uber at Sycamore Drive and Cochran Street shortly after 2 a.m., according to LAPD and Simi Valley Police. Monroe was pronounced dead at the scene.
The LAPD released the following statement:
“Losing an officer is devastating, but the pain is intensified for the men and women of the Department when it happens during what is supposed to be the happiest time of the year.”
Three others were injured in the crash, according to the release.
The Uber driver had a passenger, though no one else has been identified. Both drivers and the Uber passenger were treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital, according to the release.
"We appreciate that one of the injured parties in this collision was utilizing Uber to get home after consuming alcohol during a New Year's Eve celebration," the Simi Valley Police Department said in a statement. "Please don't drink and drive or use drugs and drive."

Simi Valley Police are handling the investigation, including investigating whether alcohol or drugs were involved. No further information was available, with the Simi Valley Police stating that no further information would be released until the investigation is complete.
