Need attic insulation? LADWP is giving $100 million in rebates.
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is offering $100 million in rebates to owners who add or augment attic insulation. Insulation helps reduce the loss of winter heat and summer cooling through the roof, and it helps save on electricity and gas use.
The rebate amounts to $1 per square foot of insulation up to 80 percent of the project cost, including materials and installation. The money comes from all LADWP ratepayers, as it's baked into the electricity rates.
About one quarter to one-third of homes in the DWP service territory lack insulation. But that still leaves about 300,000 homes that could save on their gas and electricity bills.
Valli Moore, president of RBH Insulation says it's a good deal. Her company charges, "about a dollar 25 to a dollar 50 a square foot. So essentially they would be getting it close to free."
