Michael Brown: Hundreds gather in LA's Leimert Park to protest Ferguson teen's killing
About 500 people gathered in Los Angeles's Leimert Park to protest the killing of teen Michael Brown by police in Ferguson, Missouri. Protesters also denounced the shooting of other youth by police.
Southbound Crenshaw Boulevard was closed down while between one and two dozen L.A. Police Department patrol cars escorted a group of protesters back to the park.
Police were keeping a low profile. Protesters delivered speeches in the park, where there were only two uniformed officers.
The rally is being held in coordination with others in more than 90 cities as part of Thursday's National Moment of Silence, the Associated Press reports. Scheduled rallies included one at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and several locations in New York, according to the AP.
