Massive blizzard grounds hundreds of flights at LAX
The snow has stopped falling on the Eastern Seaboard but airlines are scrambling to make up thousands of flights that were canceled across the country in the last several days.
The Associated Press reports nearly 12,000 flights have been canceled since Friday. At LAX alone, more than 200 flights were canceled, with another 120 delayed.
"We're also experiencing winter conditions up and down the West Coast," LAX spokeswoman Nancy Castles told KPCC. "We strongly recommend that passengers and all motorists who are coming here to pick up or drop off passengers check the flight status with the airline before they come."
Castles said flights will continue to operate with delays through Tuesday. Travelers can check the status of their flights on the LAX website.
The AP says airports in New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore were resuming some service Sunday.
United Airlines cut service to and from Washington D.C. on Sunday. United, along with other major airlines, hopes to get flights up and running again on Monday.
