Big Sunday honors Martin Luther King with a clothing drive

A local non-profit is celebrating the Martin Luther King Junior holiday by holding its largest clothing drive of the year.
More than 1,000 volunteers are expected to sort through about 25,000 articles of clothing on Monday. The items will be donated to local organizations serving the disadvantaged.
"I wish I could tell you it had some wonderful, poetic significance that we can tie up with the civil rights movement. It doesn't," David Levinson, the founder of the non-profit Big Sunday, tells KPCC. "What does tie in with what Martin Luther King fought so hard for, and what the civil right's movement is all about, is our community breakfast."
Monday's event includes a breakfast with entertainment by the Blue Breeze Band.
Levinson said anyone who wants to volunteer should register on the group's website.
He also wants to remind people that donations are needed every day of the year. They're always looking for new and gently-used work clothes, casual clothes and athletic wear as well as new socks and underwear.
