Manzanita Fire: Acreage rises, but so does containment
The Manzanita Fire burning in mountainous terrain south of Beaumont held steady overnight. It has burned more than 6,000 acres since Monday afternoon, when it was sparked by a car accident.
The fire is 26 percent contained, and roughly 600 firefighters are on the scene along with two dozen dozers and water tenders.

Captain Chris Kemp with the Riverside County Fire Department said the hot and dry weather has been challenging.
"Anytime we have winds, we're obviously very concerned, trying to keep that fire within the perimeter," he said. "But the heat to the firefighters, keeping them hydrated and the work they have to do out in that heat obviously hampers them a little bit."
Fire crews are expecting winds to pick up Wednesday afternoon, while temperatures are predicted to hit the low 90s.
Residents in the Poppet Flats, Silent Valley and Mount Edna areas remain on alert in case they have to evacuate, according to fire officials.
