A man who stole a parking enforcement officer's vehicle in Rosemead early Tuesday died when deputies later attempted to take him into custody in San Gabriel, according to the sheriff's department.
Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are investigating the death of the man, whose identity has not been released.
The incident started when the unnamed suspect assaulted a parking enforcement officer and stole her vehicle near Garvey Avenue and Rosemead Place in Rosemead, Deputy Mike Barraza told KPCC by phone.

Deputies later found the suspect at a local restaurant in the 6900 block of Rosemead Boulevard in San Gabriel.
The suspect died while deputies were trying to detain him, Barraza said.
No other information was available, including whether the suspect was armed or what sort of force was used by deputies.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel pronounced the suspect dead at the scene.
No deputies were injured. The extent of the parking enforcement officer's injuries were unknown other than that they were not life threatening, Barraza said.
The coroner's office said they were waiting for the investigation to conclude before they could begin an autopsy.
