An investigation continues Tuesday morning into a shooting involving the LAPD and a man armed with a steak knife.

It began as a domestic violence call late Monday night in Sherman Oaks. When officers arrived, they made contact with a man in his 70s who was carrying the knife.

The officers first attempted to reason with the suspect and de-escalate the situation, according to Officer Irma Mota with the LAPD.

"One officer was equipped with a less than lethal taser and deployed it. Shortly thereafter, an officer involved shooting occurred," she told KPCC.

The suspect was struck once in the torso and transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. No officers were injured. A steak knife was recovered at the scene, and the officers were not equipped with body cams or in-car video, Mota said.
