LAPD manhunt: More than 1,000 tips on Christopher Dorner; Southern Calif. school closes because of threat
Police are now investigating more than 1,000 tips from the public in the search for fugitive ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner, the fired officer suspected of a deadly revenge plot.
LAPD spokesman Lt. Andrew Neiman said Tuesday morning the number of tips has grown from an initial 250 since the city offered a $1 million reward for information leading to the capture of Dorner, who was charged Monday with the murder of a Riverside police officer and the attempted murder of three other cops.
Neiman said that detectives have obtained new security video from a sporting goods store but have not determined if it shows Dorner.
The video posted earlier on TMZ.com shows a man arriving with two small scuba tanks and then leaving with both those tanks and a larger one.
Dorner is suspected of three murders and three attempted murders.
Also on Tuesday, a Southern California Catholic elementary school is shut down because of reported threats against the family of the church pastor by murder suspect Christopher Dorner.
KCAL-TV reports that classes at Holy Angels School in Arcadia are canceled through at least Wednesday.
The station says classes were cancelled after the pastor called Arcadia police to say a member of his family was named in Dorner's online manifesto.
Police say they're adding patrols near the school.
Dorner is a former Los Angeles police officer. He's suspected of killing three people in retaliation for his firing.
