KPCC wins 7 Golden Mike Awards
KPCC's news team has a lot to be proud of. Saturday night, the Golden Mike Awards for broadcast news excellence were presented by the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California. The magic number for our folks is seven... seven Golden Mikes.
The Best News Public Affairs Program is "Patt Morrison." Patt and and her producers were honored for Comedy Congress.
The Best News Reporting came from our own Brian Watt, for his story last summer, "Grim Sleeper Memorial," remembering the victims of an L.A. serial killer.
Brian was also the winner in the Best Business and Consumer Reporting category, for his feature last spring on the Boeing C-17 plant in Long Beach – a venue that's soon to lose 900 jobs, as we learned last week.
Going behind bars produced a pair of winners. The Best Series Golden Mike in the Hard News category went to Julie Small for her prison health care series. And Steven Cuevas won the trophy for Best Investigative Reporting for his Chino Prison series.
The Best News Special Golden Mike went to "AirTalk" with Larry Mantle, for its live show from Phoenix last summer focusing on Arizona's immigration law.
And finally, the Best Light Feature report was "Pants," reported by Sanden Totten of "The Madeleine Brand Show."
