Koreatown shooting: Witness runs down shooting suspect with his car

A man is dead and two women were injured early Sunday morning when they were shot near a Koreatown Metro stop. Police say a witness then ran down the suspect with his car.
A 49-year-old man and two women were shot several times as they drove out from a parking lot at 12:20 a.m Sunday, near the Wilshire/Vermont Metro stop. The male driver was killed, and his car lurched into the road and crashed into a fence across the street, LAPD Detective Supervisor Steven Katz told KPCC.
Katz said LAPD officers in the area heard the gunfire and drove to the area. An eyewitness pointed out the shooting suspect, running south on Shatto Place toward Wilshire.

Officers chased the man on foot. As the suspect bolted across Wilshire toward Westmoreland, Katz said the witness struck the suspect with his car.
"While [police officers] were running after the suspect, the witness who directed the officers to the suspect drove past them in a vehicle and struck this suspect, injuring him," Katz said. "The officers arrived and took the suspect into custody without incident. He was identified as a suspect in a homicide that had just occurred in the 600 block of Shatto Place."
The suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition, Katz said. He added that the shooting is likely to be gang-related, though it's too early in the investigation to say for sure.

The shooting victim was identified by the L.A. County coroners office as Clay Allen Casey.
The two women are in stable condition at a local hospital.
