Riverside police still searching for gunman who shot RPD cop
There’s more information on the man wanted for the murder of a Riverside police officer over the weekend. Authorities say the alleged killer is an African-American male in his 30s or 40s.
Riverside police investigators released a grainy picture of the suspect, taken from the dashboard video camera of slain officer Ryan Bonaminio. The tall, middle-aged man is wearing baggy dark clothes and a tan baseball cap. Police also recovered what is likely the stolen big rig cab the man was driving.
Bonaminio pulled the suspect over late Sunday for allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident. He ran from the vehicle after being pulled over.
Bonamino was shot in the ensuing chase. He’s the first Riverside policeman killed in the line of duty in nine years.
Bonaminio joined the department four years ago. The 28-year-old officer enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating high school and served two tours of duty in Iraq.
Bonaminio is survived by his parents and two siblings. Authorities are planning a joint military and police funeral for the slain officer.
