Inglewood officer shoots, kills man wielding 2-foot sword
An Inglewood police spokeswoman says an officer fatally shot a man who was using a 2-foot sword to smash the windows of police cars.
Inglewood police Lt. Neal Cochran said the incident took place at 5:56 p.m. Saturday, when an officer noticed a man outside the police station breaking a police cruiser windshield with the sword.
"When our officer asked him what was going on, he charged the officer while holding the sword," Cochran said. "Our officer shot one round at the man, striking him. He was treated by paramedics and taken to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries."
Police have not released the name of the officer or the man with the weapon.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

Clarification: An earlier version of this post characterized the weapon used in the attack as a machete. Inglewood officer Neal Cochran said Sunday the instrument was "more sword than machete."
