Hit-and-run kills 101-year-old Los Angeles man
A hit-and-run has killed 101-year-old Los Angeles man Jose Noriega, according to a news release from the L.A. Police Department. A suspect was taken into custody.
Noriega was hit around 6 a.m., according to the release, just south of Interstate 5. The suspect was driving a 1997 Chevy Astro van and allegedly hit Noriega while he was walking across a crosswalk.
Witnesses followed suspect Ricardo Avalos, 41, and blocked his path, detaining Avalos until the police arrived, according to the release.. He was booked on $50,000 bail.
Detectives are looking for more witnesses, according to the release. They've asked the public to call with any information about what happened or to go online to LAPDOnline.org and click "webtips."
