Happy birthday Nixon’s birthplace. Childhood home celebrated in Yorba Linda
99 years ago, a future president of the United States was born in Yorba Linda and a commemoration of the event is planned for Saturday.
The celebration will take place on the steps of the Yorba Linda home where Richard Nixon was born in 1913.
Nixon’s father Frank built the modest farmhouse on the Orange County property. The future 37th President lived in the house until his family moved to Whittier when he was nine years old.
Jonathan Movroydis with the Richard Nixon Foundation says Congressman Ed Royce is among the guests for this weekend’s party.
“Former residents of the birthplace will be honored and descendants of Yorba Linda pioneers will also be honored," says Movroydis. "We’re going to plant a lemon tree and we’re also going to have a time capsule.”
He says there’ll be free birthday cake (while it lasts), remarks from members of the Nixon family, presentations on the home’s history and barbershop quartet performances.
Movroydis says the event is a warmup to next year’s planned observance of Richard Nixon’s 100th birthday.
The open party will last from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda.
