Gorman Fire: Crews stop spread of wildfire near I-5
Firefighters say they're gaining ground on a 60-acre fire that erupted near Interstate 5 in Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters say they're gaining ground on a 60-acre fire that erupted near the Grapevine along Interstate 5 Tuesday afternoon.
Crews have the fire about 80 percent contained, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. One northbound lane of the 5 Freeway was closed Tuesday, but the freeway wasn't directly affected by smoke of flames, according to L.A. County Fire Inspector Richard Licon.
"We're keeping personnel on the ground," said Licon. "They'll be doing mop-up around the area, cutting a line around the fire to stop the spread "
Licon added that firefighters have stopped forward progress on the fire. About 1118 fire personnel were working on the fire, including two fixed wing aircraft, three helicopters and a couple bulldozers.
