Former US Senator Chris Dodd named MPAA chief
Chris Dodd, the former U.S. senator from Connecticut, has been named chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, officials said.
Dodd is set to begin his new post on March 17.
He replaces Dan Glickman, who left last April to become president of Refugees International, the MPAA said Tuesday in a statement.
Dodd takes on the new job as studios seek federal help in cutting Internet piracy and hope to gain wider access for their movies in foreign markets, the MPAA said.
Dodd served for three decades in the Senate and played a key role in overseeing passage of the sweeping financial reform package while serving as head of the Senate banking panel.
Dodd succeeds Glickman, a former Kansas congressman and Secretary of Agriculture who took over the job in 2004 from Jack Valenti, who died in 2007.
