Former LA King Luc Robitaille named to Hockey Hall of Fame
One of pro hockey’s highest honors came calling for former L.A. King left winger Luc Robitaille today. KPCC’s Susan Valot says he’s being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Robitaille says it’s “indescribable,” beyond anything he ever dreamed of. He, former Detroit Red Wing Steve Yzerman, ex-New York Ranger Brian Leetch, and former Phoenix Coyote Brett Hull will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto this November.
The Kings drafted Robitaille 25 years ago. A couple of years later, when he finally made it onto the NHL ice, he was named the league’s Rookie of the Year. Robitaille went on to become the highest-scoring left winger in the history of the National Hockey League. He’s also the highest-scoring King of all time.
Robitaille retired from the ice three years ago, with 1,394 points and 668 goals under his stick – both records for an NHL left wing. He’s one of five Kings whose jersey was retired and hoisted to the rafters of Staples Center. Robitaille continues to work for the Kings in the front office.
