FlyAway bus service to link LAX and Long Beach by December

Long Beach residents will soon have a new way to reach LAX.
FlyAway, a bus service that regularly picks-up and drops-off passengers at the Los Angeles International Airport from locations in and around Los Angeles, has added a new Long Beach line.
By December, travelers will be able to catch a bus to and from the Long Beach Transit Gallery, which also has connections to Metro, Torrance Transit and other transportation services.
Fare for the first year of the service will begin at $7. Marshall Lowe, airport spokesperson, said the fare could change after six months. Other location fares vary in prices.
The bus service currently operates five other locations, including sites in Van Nuys, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Union Station and Westwood, according to its website.
In a statement, FlyAway said the Long Beach location is expected to provide services to around 50,000 passengers during its first year.
"A passenger survey study showed that this zip code area generated the fifth largest percentage of originating passengers using LAX," Lowe said.

The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners approved a memorandum with the Long Beach Public Transportation Company Thursday, Lowe said. The service agreement is for a year with two one-year renewal options, according to a statement.
"The extensions are more or less negotiated between the airport personnel and the cities," Lowe said. The new bus service in Long Beach is one of the additional FlyAway sites Los Angeles World Airports has to add by 2015 as a part of the LAX Master Plan Settlement Agreement a statement said.
Lowe said meetings will take place within the next week or so to set an exact date for the new service.
