Greg Plitt: Engineer, conductor undergoing trauma counseling after fitness model train death
The engineer and conductor aboard the Metrolink train that struck and killed fitness model Greg Plitt on Saturday afternoon are now undergoing trauma counseling, Metrolink spokesman Jeff Lustgarten told KPCC. Plitt was running on the tracks as part of an unauthorized film shoot.
"For any engineers or conductors that have to go through something like this, as a matter of practice, we take the crew out of circulation immediately and they receive trauma counseling for as long as they need," Lustgarten said.
The train that hit Plitt was heading southbound and was transporting roughly 180 people, Lustgarten said. The engineer saw Plitt on the tracks, sounded the horns and hit the breaks, Lustgarten said, but added that there was not much the engineer could do after that.
"We spend a lot of time and effort throughout the year talking to different schools and community organizations about the importance of rail safety," Lustgarten said. "This is a very sad event, but it was also unfortunately very preventable."
No passengers aboard are known to be seeking trauma counseling, according to Lustgarten.
An investigation by the Burbank Police Department is ongoing.
