Extremely Separate and Widely Unequal: Preschool Segregation, Part 1
Recent research points to an uncomfortable fact: Public preschool in California is deeply segregated. More than half of the state's children go to a preschool with has 90 to 100 percent children of color. When the Supreme Court outlawed segregation in public education it did so because it found that separate schools were not equal. But the decision doesn't apply to preschool. In this three-part series, reporter Deepa Fernandes set out to discover just how unequal California's public preschools are compared to preschools in higher income, mostly white, areas.
