Do you want rapid bus, tram or light rail in the San Fernando Valley? Metro seeks your comments
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority is seeking feedback on options for a new transit line in the Eastern San Fernando Valley.
Metro released a draft environmental impact report for the line, which will roughly parallel Van Nuys Boulevard connecting the Orange Line rapid bus at Van Nuys to the Metrolink commuter rail service at Slymar/San Fernando.
The corridor is currently one of Metro’s busiest for bus service and the agency is looking at four alternatives. Two proposals involve rapid bus service with a dedicated bus lane, either at curbside or in the center by the median. The other two options involve rail — either a slower, smaller tram service or a full-sized light rail line with fewer stops.

Of all the options the light rail would be the fastest but the estimated cost for it would be double the existing budget for the project.

Two voter-approved sales tax measures, Measure M and Measure R, will raise about $1.3 billion for the line, with a groundbreaker set for 2021.
