Update 6:13 p.m.: NBCLA reports a large police response at a home close to where several dogs attacked and killed a jogger Thursday morning. The station says at least four dogs were taken from the home:
At least four dogs were taken from the home after deputies served a search warrant some time after 5 p.m. Women at the home were screaming as the dogs were taken away, and two men appeared to be in custody in the back of a patrol car.
Sheriff's deputies said the attack occured around 9:30 a.m. near 110th Street East and Avenue S, which is unincorporated County of Los Angeles.
The victim was transported to the hospital via ambulance and passed away as she was being transferred to an area hospital.
"The victim was jogging on Avenue S in Littlerock, which is unincorporated County of Los Angeles when she was attacked by four pitbulls.," L.A. County Department of Animal Care and Control spokesperson Evelina Villa said. "She was then transported to the hospital via ambulance and actually passed away en route."
Attacks of this kind are rare in L.A. County
"I can't remember the last time we experienced a fatal attack where someone was killed," said Villa.
Villa said investigators have not yet located the owners or determined whether the dogs were from that area.
Authorities have not yet released the identify of the jogger.
