Creek Fire containment now at 80 percent
Firefighters have achieved 80 percent containment over the Creek Fire burning in the northeast San Fernando Valley, according to a Saturday morning update from Cal Fire.
The fire destroyed 56 residential buildings and damaged 45 others since breaking out four miles east of Sylmar on Tuesday morning. An additional 49 structures were destroyed and 25 damaged.
Authorities expect to continue increasing containment although Santa Ana winds will continue through the weekend.
The fire danger in the Angeles National Forest has been elevated to extreme, and visitors will be restricted from grilling and setting campfires.
All evacuation orders have been lifted in the area. The Santiago Estates and Little Tujunga from Middle Ranch to Live Oak Campground are open to residents only.
