Don't celebrate Christmas? 7 things to do that don't involve the holiday
It's not only cats that have a hard time on Christmas.
Watch "It's Hard to be a Cat on Christmas"
If you're not celebrating Christmas this year — or if Dec. 25, 2013, is just Wednesday to you — planning what to eat, where to go and what to do can be a struggle.
We reached out to our listeners to see how they spend the day if they're not doing the holly and Santa thing. Below is a list of open restaurants and non-Christmas events taking place. Don't feel like doing much of anything? We've got some totally lazy ideas for you, too.
1. Get comfortable on the couch

Move over, Ralphie. There's a slew of new characters invading cable this year. Highlights include:
- 11 a.m. on SyFy, Channel 59: Ice Spiders— There's no better way to spend your time off than waking up to a horror movie filled with giant spiders wreaking havoc on a ski resort.
- 2:15 p.m. on CABC, Channel 7: NBA Basketball Heat at Lakers — Watch the L.A. Lakers play the Miami Heat in this home game.
- 4:30 p.m. on E!, Channel 56: My Best Friend's Wedding — Let's switch gears and lighten up the mood. Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz duke it out in this classic rom com.
- 8 p.m. on KCAL, Channel 9: Incredible Dog Challenge — Watch dogs do awesome things; events include agility, disc, racing and diving.
- 10:30 p.m. on VH1, Channel 73: Happy Gilmore — Bust out the whiskey and make it a fun night of crude humor. Drink every time any of these things happen.
2. Explore the Magic Kingdom
"It's a Small World" Holiday Clock Show
The best anti-Christmas present ever: a trip to Disneyland. You will encounter plenty of seasonal highlights, including a mini-winter village with an outdoor ice-skating rink and a fireworks show over Sleeping Beauty's decked-out castle. Let the countdown to extreme fun begin. Click here for a complete schedule of Dec. 25 events.
3. Plan a staycation

Grab a small group of family or friends and rent one of these lovely (and local) homes via OneFineStay. This three-bedroom retro pad in Culver City boasts a spacious backyard with a pool for $900 a night (pictured above). The company also lends guests an iPhone stocked with local tips from homeowners. But if that's too pricey, try the popular Airbnb, where you can find local spots for less cash.
4. Eat tons of Chinese and Japanese food
Top picks from KPCC listeners and staff include: Yang Chow for slippery shrimp, NBC Seafood for dim sum and Wang Xing Ji for juicy pork dumplings.
L.A. Weekly's Tien Nguyen also suggests Trujita L.A. Artisan Noodle and Tsujita Annex in West L.A. for ramen.

5. Bike or hike the beach
Where else in the country can you soak up the sun and cruise the coast on a December morning without freezing your butt off? Listener Stephanie Ann likes to spend her day off with a bike ride along the beach.
Here are some suggested biking and hiking spots along the coast:
