California Community Foundation announces $1B in grant funding for LA County nonprofits
The California Community Foundation has announced a major investment in Los Angeles County neighborhoods: $1 billion in grants over the next 10 years.
The funding will be available to nonprofits serving L.A. County and would pay for improvement in education, housing, civic engagement, the arts and more.
The announcement follows a poll conducted by USC's Jesse M. Unruh Institute of Politics and the Los Angeles Times showing a lack of time, money and knowledge contribute to why residents don’t get involved in the community.
The California Community Foundation funds would help address those issues and others. The latest funding pledge, for which the foundation would fundraise, is $300 million more than what the organization spent from 2005 to 2015. During that period, the foundation made 46,000 grants to over 11,000 recipients.
Taleen Ananian, a foundation spokesperson, said the organization was optimistic that it can meet the $1 billion fundraising goal. The nonprofit reached its 100th anniversary this year, she said, which helps with the momentum.
Grants will be given out in several rounds. The next deadline for applications is in November. Information on how to apply is available online.
